About Physical Education
This course is designed for those pupils who are interested in all aspects of sport. Over half of your time will be spent on improving practical skills whilst the remainder will look at the more theoretical aspects of sport. This is a two year course leading to G.C.S.E.
The Ed. Excel Syllabus consists of :
- 40% Practical
- 20% Analysis of performance
- 40% Exam
Candidates will be assessed in four practical activities which must be selected from at least 2 different activity groups :- Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Adventurous activities, Swimming and Exercise activities
The Theoretical aspect of the course looks at : Exercise and Training; Safety aspects and Risk Assessment; Applied Anatomy and Physiology.
Physical Education (Programme of Study)
As part of the National Curriculum (if you do not pick G.C.S.E. Physical Education or G.C.S.E. Sports Studies then you will be expected to complete a minimum of two programmes of study.) Each programme will run for a prescribed number of hours over the course of 2 years. (Students can elect to do more than 2 programmes should they choose to do so).
Sports courses will be offered as additional curriculum provision "out of hours" during school holidays, weekends, extra curricular and during timetabled sports activity weeks.

- Outdoor Education Activities
- Dance/Gymnastics Activities
- Athletic Activities
- Swimming Activities
and sports can be picked from these areas.
