Applied Business Business Studies

Business is a small department. It is located at the top of B Block and is taught by Mrs Critchley who also teaches French and Spanish.


In the department there is a suite of 32 computers with full internet access and also an interactive whiteboard.

From September 2006, there will be two courses available for Key Stage Four students at Ruffwood School.

This is a two year course leading to two GCSEs.


What will you learn?

In the first unit, you will compare two businesses:-

All students study Jaguar and will visit the Jaguar factory in Halewood to see how the cars are made. All students are given a free choice for their other business. In the past, pupils have completed successful pieces of coursework on business such as Easyjet, Gucci, Estee Lauder. JJB, Tesco, Asda and Ikea

In the second unit, we look at the people who work in a business and we are currently studying what it’s like to actually work in Ruffwood School, we look at applying for jobs and who else is interested in the business.

The third unit is an exam on Business finance. In this unit you will learn about ordering and paying for goods and how a business manages its finances.

What will you learn?

The coursework is a very “hands on” task in which you will learn how to run a mini business. There may be the possibility for some pupils to enter the young enterprise competition. For more information on this visit the website
