Dear Parents/Carers

From 3rd March 2008 the Learning Centre builders, Balfour Beatty, should be coming onto the Ruffwood site. As you are aware the new Kirkby Catholic Learning Centre will be constructed here, whilst the new Learning Centre for the amalgamated Ruffwood and Brookfield Schools will be on the Brookfield site.

Inevitably there will be some disruption to the School, but with the co-operation of Balfour Beatty and the Knowsley Building Schools for the Future Team this will be kept to a minimum.

The first change will be the demolition of West Block and the ‘Key Link’ buildings. Work is currently being undertaken to provide alternative accommodation in the Technology Block and the Blue Room area of East Block. These should be completed by the time we return after Easter (31st March 2008).

After this time, we will see the main changes to the school. The building site will be fenced off and there will not be access for the students onto this area between the school buildings and County Road.

The new Learning Centre will be, as are all building sites, an area that must not be accessed by any unauthorised person. I seek your co-operation in emphasising the risks of entering building sites to all the Ruffwood students.

The PE Department will suffer the greatest disruption, however I have been in discussion with the BSF Team to secure the reinstatement of other playing fields to maintain an outdoor space.

For those of you who have sons and daughters taking exams this year, either in Year 9 or Year 11, I will be ensuring that the work does not disturb their concentration during those exams.

The new Learning Centres throughout Knowsley will be very impressive and exciting facilities. Staff from both Ruffwood and Brookfield are working very closely towards the amalgamation in September of the two Schools and many of the students will be involved in joint projects over the next four terms.

If you have any questions relating to the new Learning Centres, please contact the school.

Yours faithfully

Dear Parents/Guardian

This coming September, as you know, Ruffwood and Brookfield will begin a year’s transition into the new Kirkby Learning Centre being built on the Brookfield campus site – by amalgamating a year ahead of the other Knowsley schools.

From September 2008 the new school will be known as the Kirkby Sports College with a Ruffwood Campus and a Brookfield Campus.

For the 2008/09 school year, the present Brookfield pupils will remain on the Brookfield site and your son/daughter will stay on the Ruffwood site. The uniform on both sites will remain as present.

The new Year 7 pupils in September 2008 will be our first ‘Learning Centre’ year group and will be based on the Brookfield campus and will benefit from accessing a purpose built ‘home base’ being constructed in the Kirkby City Learning Centre.

We will be meeting with our Primary Heads to arrange for a day in June when all of our new Year 7 pupils will visit the Brookfield campus for their first day and when we will meet their parents.

To ensure a smooth transition Mrs Jervis has been appointed as Executive Headteacher at Ruffwood with immediate effect, as she will be the Head of the new Kirkby Community Learning Centre.

Our highly committed teaching and support staff will remain largely unaltered for the next year and we can assure you that there should be no disruption to the education programme of any year group.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully
