Music
The G.C.S.E. music exam has three sections : a written 1 hour 15 minute listening test (25%), a performance section (25%) and a folio of compositions (25%), an integrated assignment (25%).
The listening tests involve a large amount of theory and a knowledge of the history of music.
For performance you will have to be able to sing or play an instrument to a fairly high standard and be able to read music fluently.
The folio of compositions is a selection of your own pieces of music to a total running time of five minutes.
To reach G.C.S.E. level in the two year course requires a good prior knowledge; for example, if you can't sing or play an instrument at the time you consider your G.C.S.E. options it is unlikely that you will be up to the required standard by the time of the exam.
